MEET MICHAEL FREELAND

Hailed as a “modern-day Indiana Jones,” Michael Freeland is an actor, writer, director, producer, and multi-faceted performer living in New York City. His acting credits range from film and television to theater to commercial work and span multiple genres. His roles include disgraced-ex-soldier-turned-suicide-bomber John Hidell in American Bomber (recipient of the Mayor’s Office of Film, Made in New York, grant); Hamlet in Hudson Warehouse’s Summer Stage production; and Kenny Loggins in David Juskow’s satirical comedy Turbocharge: The Unauthorized Story of the Cars. If you’re a gamer, you’ve probably heard his voice-acting skills on display in the critically acclaimed Red Dead Redemption 2, in which he pulls from his Southern roots to voice several unsavory characters. And when he’s not working, you can catch him performing as David Bowie, characters from Rocky Horror Picture Show, or any number of cult-classic villains and movie monsters at various neighborhood productions in his adopted hometown of Astoria, Queens.

In addition to acting, Mike exercises his passion for film as a producer, writer, and director. He produced the short film In Between, which premiered at the 2018 Cannes Short Film Corner, and spent ten years as the producer, creative director, and master of ceremonies for The Sparrow Film Project, a local, independent film competition in which filmmakers create a three-minute film in three weeks based on a specific theme and set of parameters.

Mike studied theater at the University of Southern Mississippi, completed the Studio Program at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, and received a Bachelor of Science in Liberal Arts from The New School. Born and reared in Jackson, Mississippi, he moved to NYC in 2001 and has lived in Astoria, Queens since 2002. Known for his arch sense of humor, playful spirit, and excellent hugs, Mike can often be found sipping Fernet at one of his favorite Astoria bars or sketching comics on the back of napkins for his Instagram page @greatjobdudezine.
